Overview of Term Life Insurance Rates

Many people regard term life insurance as one of the most inexpensive insurance policies. The main benefit of this type is that the beneficiaries get money payment for when the insured policy holder dies during the contract period. However, you cannot use the premium of this insurance policy to fund investments. Other insurance policy premiums such as variable life and whole life policies can be used to pay for various policies. The most common types are variable life, whole life as well as term life insurance policies. Clients can get best term life insurance rates for this policy.

Many companies offer their clients the option of getting guarantee premium policies. Clients can get the same premiums over the contract period, where they pay the same amount of premiums. Other companies do not offer the same guarantee premium policies to their clients, and they may change the rates of the premium every other time. These companies base the insurance rates on the risk of the death of a client. If a client has a risky job or hobby, his monthly or annual premium rate will rise as opposed to those with normal jobs and low risk hobbies.

Term life insurance rates best policies are based on conditions such as medical, age and lifestyle choices as well as the insurance company's terms and conditions. Many people ignore the fact that many insurance companies look at their age, health conditions as well as their lifestyle choices. These are some of the common factors which affect the premium rates of many clients. In case a client has some lifestyle diseases such as gout, he may not get the best term life insurance rates. Some potential policy holders have had their applications cancelled because of their high risk hobbies such as extreme sports. There are some companies, which opt to insure such people who are regarded as high risk by other insurance companies.

Finding the best insurance rates is a rewarding process, because it will make sure that the dependents of the insured get the monetary benefit after his or her untimely death. This policy enables the family to pay for the funeral expenses of the insured after his death. The policy has a lower premium rate as compared to the other policies in the same class of insurance. The period of the contract profoundly affects the monthly premiums a client should pay. Term life insurance is a policy which suits many people's budget.

When Lizards Will Not Eat, They Have to Eat

Like any animal, lizards at times in captivity will need to be force fed. There are situations and conditions which will result in a lizard not eating on their own.

Some diseases lizards can get will result in seizures, or a similar condition. It is imperative not to feed them during an incident like this. They will most likely not be able to swallow the food. It is best to seek the help of a veterinarian at this point. The animal will need to have a tube placed into their stomach to feed. If the animal shows no signs of seizures, they can be fed using a syringe. It is tricky to get their mouth open, but should be possible using the syringe itself.

Using the syringe, squeeze the processed food into the back of the throat, taking great care to avoid the trachea at the back of the tongue. Make sure to only offer as much food as the animal can handle. Larger lizards can obviously handle more food. It may also be possible to force-feed feeder insects. If the lizard is having digestive problems however, the liquid substitute is much easier to digest, as much of the work is already done. Another advantage of liquid feeding is the fact that you control exactly what the lizard is getting into its diet.

For the vegetable part of the liquid diet, vegetable baby food works very well. This food is high in vitamins and can easily be digested by the lizard. Make sure to add in a calcium supplement to the food. Younger lizards need to be fed more often but in smaller quantities, while larger lizards will need to be fed less often, but with higher quantities per feeding. You have to follow the natural way your lizard eats its food, as not to upset their natural metabolism. If your lizard eats both insects and vegetables, you can use a type of cat food (used for sick cats) if they will eat it. You can also try to add insect matter (use fresh insects) into the liquid mix.

Podiatry 101 What You Need to Know About

American Podiatric Medical Association

Founded in the year 1912, the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA), today represents approximately 15000 Doctors of Podiatric Medicines (DPMs). The Association headquarters are situated in Bethesda, Maryland. With a staff of approx 60 employees the association assists the 53 societies scattered throughout the US, with the goal of improving the foot and ankle health of every individual. Their attempt is to achieve this goal by providing information by the way of a toll free number, internet, and information brochures.

Podiatrists attain a four year undergraduate degree before attending an accredited, four year course at medical school. These schools are: Barry University School of Medical Graduate Medical Sciences, California School of Podiatric Medicine at Samuel Merritt College, College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery- Des Moines University- Osteopathic Medical Center, Dr. William M Scholl of College of Podiatric Medicine at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science, New York College of Podiatric Medicine, Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, and Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine.

DPMs also have to complete a residence at hospital. APMA's Council on Podiatric Medical Education has been entrusted the task accrediting Podiatric Medical Education by the US department of Education. In order to obtain admission into any of the seven accredited podiatric schools one must pass the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). Residency programs as well as podiatric medical boards are both looked after by the Council.

The APMA's educational Foundation also gives out scholarships to prospective DPMs, each year and also helps to fund programs aimed at raising awareness about foot and ankle health. The scholarship funds contribute approx $1000 to about 134 students each, annually. An overall figure of 142,000$ is also contributed by the fund each year and is responsible for he contribution of about 1 million $ to aid almost 1000 prospective DPMs.

Third or Fourth year students from any of the seven accredited colleges and chosen by the College Scholarship and Student Loan Committee, based on various factors like classroom performance, leadership qualities, podiatric community involvement and financial need etc.

There are plenty of ailments that effect the feet but the most common two are Athletes Foot and Bunions.

Athletes Foot is a skin disease that originates with the foot. Fungus responsible for the disease thrives at warm, dark and moist places and thus the feet offer the perfect home. Name comes from the fact that many athletes suffered from this fungus and also the fact that swimming pools and locker rooms are also safe breeding ground for the fungi.

Symptoms include itchy, dry and irritated skin also sometimes accompanied by blisters, scaling and inflammation. It may spread to other parts of the body as well, like the underarms and the groin region. It can be prevented by taking a proper care of the skin. Washing and keeping the feet clean, using a feet powder. Fungicidal creams are also effective in healing.

Another common foot ailment is the Bunion, an enlargement of the metatarsophalangeal (MTO) join, located at the base of the big toe. Symptoms include swelling, redness, corns, and irritation also accompanied by abnormal forces placed on the tendons and joints of the foot. It is treated mostly by padding the inflammatory are and taping the foot in a proper position. Anti inflammatory drugs, ultra sound treatment and cortisone injections are also prescribed to ease the pain and swelling. In severe cases a surgical [procedure called bunionectomy might be performed by podiatrists.

Top Tips for Caring for Your Garden Birds in Summer

With the typical less than sunny British summers, our wonderful wild birds can be in for a rough ride as certain natural food reserves can become scarce. To help care for your garden birds, here are a few hints and tips that will help your garden birds thrive over the summer months.

1. During the summer months, many wild birds moult and therefore require a high protein diet to keep them in good health through-out this season. Golden Feathers seed mix is a nutritious blend that will help you to provide that much needed energy boost, as this is high in protein. Other good foods to provide during summer include (but not limited to), pinhead oatmeal, soaked sultanas, raisins and currants, black sunflower seeds, live & dried mealworms, waxworms, mild grated cheese, mixes for insectivorous birds, good seed mixtures without loose peanuts and summer seed mixture. The advice is to avoid using bread, fat foods and peanuts at this time of year, as these can be harmful if birds feed them to their young. Home-made fatballs should also be avoided as these can go rotten in warmer weather and therefore be dangerous for wild birds to consume. Commercially produced fat bars are suitable for summer feeding but it is recommended that after three weeks the remains are thrown away.

2. Between April and September, adult birds will be searching for food for their fast-growing juveniles. It's important to care for young beaks by providing smaller mixes and ensuring that peanuts are always within a quality peanut feeder, so that they can be easily broken down.

3. During frequent down-pours in summer months, there's chance of an insect food shortage. Supplement the diet of your wild birds with some dried mealworms. Easy to store and use, they are irresistible to garden birds and are great for busy parents feeding their young.

4. Although summer is a key feeding time for wild birds, it's recommended by experts the British Trust for Ornithology that you continue supplementing the diet of your garden birds all year round to ensure they always have enough food.

5. In this warm and wet weather, disease can easily spread. To help alleviate this problem, FeedSafe feeders have an innovative antibacterial coating, preventing the build-up of microbes and germs for up to 10 years! Or to keep existing feeders, tables and feeding stations clean, it is recommend to regularly use a bird-safe hygiene spray.

Anniversary Blues

Jamie and Kurt are a sweet, successful couple in their early thirties. In spite of loving each other deeply, they often find themselves in conflict over seemingly minor issues, as most couples do. Recently, just one week before their wedding anniversary, they had a particularly hurtful argument. Jamie had expressed her unhappiness about Kurt's busy schedule and the limited time he finds to spend with her. As usual, Kurt promised to try harder and they got through it. But having not dealt with the real issues at hand, the problem was bound to resurface. Jamie unknowingly began planting the seeds for their next bout when she decided to bring up the subject of their anniversary.

"Kurt, I just wanted to remind you that next week is our anniversary and it's really important that we plan something special for us."

Kurt took a deep breath and responded, "Jamie, you know I don't really like celebrations."

"Oh come on Kurt. It's really important to me." Nearly pleading, Jamie continued. "When you really love someone, you try to do what is important to them, right? I made the plans last year and now it's your turn. Why don't you surprise me...something really romantic! Okay?"

Silent and distant, Kurt gave a slight nod, which was all the assurance Jamie needed that this anniversary would be exceptional. She could barely work that week fantasizing about what Kurt would do to demonstrate his everlasting love. Finally, the day arrived! Kurt had agreed to be home by six o clock. By twenty past six, Jamie was anxious. With each glance at the clock, her pacing quickened. At last, Kurt walked through the door looking tense and clutching a bouquet of red roses. Jamie took the roses with a wary smile, anticipating what was coming next. Without even so much as a glance, Kurt turned around, got a beer out of the fridge, and sank into the couch, grabbing the remote control.

Jamie watched intently, feeling her blood turn to ice. "That's it?" she asked.

"That's what?"

"That's it? It's our anniversary!" Jamie's tone grew sharp. "You said you would plan something special and romantic and this..." shaking the roses in her clenched fist, "this is it?"

"I never said I would do anything," Kurt retorted. "I told you it wasn't my thing."

"Don t lie to me! You nodded yes!"

"No, I didn't. I didn't agree to anything. You always want me to prove that I love you. I hate that! Even if I did want to do something for our anniversary, I certainly wouldn't want to after you tell me you expect it! Sullenly, Kurt turned back to the TV. You take all the fun out of everything.

Jamie dissolved into tears. "Well if you knew how to show me you loved me, I wouldn't have to say anything."

Without a word, Kurt turned off the TV and left the house.

Once again, Jamie and Kurt were left feeling unheard and unappreciated. Their conditioned response was to blame each other for their hurt feelings and angry behavior.

In order to understand how things went so wrong, we need to look at the interaction in terms of their intention to learn or their intention to protect.

Jamie starts out trying to control Kurt by making him feel guilty. Kurt, not wanting to be controlled and not able to communicate how being controlled makes him feel, moves into resistance, which is his form of control. Jamie thinks that laying on more guilt (control) will accomplish her objective to have a romantic anniversary. Since Kurt is frustrated with his inability to express his brewing feelings, he moves into silence (control). Finally, when Kurt comes home late and sits on the sofa, he demonstrates passivity (control) to which Jamie responds with anger (control). Kurt uses more resistance (control) and Jamie uses more anger and guilt (control). Kurt gets defensive (control) and disappears (control). Attack, resist, blame, defend, on and on...Sound familiar?

Neither Kurt nor Jamie want to hurt each other. Unfortunately, they are also not open to learning about their own feelings and behaviors, or each other's. Resorting to controlling behavior keeps them safe and eliminates the need to effectively communicate their fear. Fear is what motivates their intention to control and in the face of fear, their love dissipates.

Instead of each person taking full responsibility for his or her own happiness and unhappiness, they gave that job to each other. Imagine that your feelings are a child within. Imagine what would happen if you had an actual child that you kept trying to give to others to take care of. That child would feel scared and insecure most of the time. Yet that is exactly what happens when we make others responsible for our feelings - our child within feels scared, insecure, angry, depressed, and anxious. It is only when we take responsibility for our own feelings, which we can do through the intent to learn, that we will feel secure enough to give up the need to control and resist control.

It would be easy to blame Jamie for their problems - if only she didn't get so needy and angry, everything would be fine. It's just as easy to blame Kurt - if only he was more attentive and caring. Yet until both Jamie and Kurt are willing to take responsibility for their own feelings, and until loving themselves and each other is more important than controlling or not being controlled, their conflicts will continue.

The act of taking responsibility has nothing to do with blame or fault. Each person taking full responsibility eliminates the need to be right and that is an essential step to a mature and reasonable outcome. What if Jamie had started with, "Kurt, I love celebrating our anniversary and you hate it. Can we talk about what would work for both of us?" They could have more easily resolved the issue. And what if Kurt had responded to Jamie's initial controlling statements with caring and openness instead of resistance, such as, "Honey, you know I don't like celebrations, so please don't expect me to plan something. Let's talk about how we can make it work for both of us." Either one of them could have moved into an intent to learn and taken responsibility for creating what they wanted.

Each of us has the choice to begin to notice our intention.

If each of us changed our intention from controlling to loving, and learned to take responsibility for our own feelings, we would each be participating in healing our relationships and thereby healing our planet.

Ten Tips to a Job-Winning Interview

These days, you have to work hard to get a serious job interview. After running just one want ad, recruiters will see thousands of resumes. So getting picked for an interview is a reason to celebrate.

But after celebrating The Call, plan for success. You'll have limited time to impress an interviewer. Even if you decide you don't want the job, I recommend using the opportunity to practice. An offer will build your confidence for the job you really want. And who knows? You may get invited to interview for a really desirable option

1. Do your homework: Investigate the company's culture, finances and markets.

Publications and media reports will help -- but you'll usually get a biased picture. Get on the phone and call anyone who might be able to give you information. See if you can find somebody who knows somebody who had first-hand contact with the organization.

But once you're in the meeting, resist the temptation to show off what you've researched ("I just read that you're about to embark on a new product line") unless you have a question directly related to your career. Interviewers can tell when you're going through the motions.

2. Look like you belong.

Learn the company's dress code and err on the side of conservatism. Some companies will expect you to show up in a classic suit even when all the incumbents are wearing shorts.

When you're seeking a senior position based on industry experience, you'll be expected to know the rules without being told.

3. Take charge of the interview!

The most successful interviews feel like friendly conversations. When your interviewer has an agenda (such as the infamous "stress interview") stay relaxed. Think of playing a game.

When your interviewer refuses to be deflected from a series of prepared questions, raise a red flag. You may be dealing with an HR person who will disapppear as soon as you're hired. That's okay.

But if your boss seems to be reading from a canned program, she may be inexperienced, naïve, rigid, overworked or lazy. Wait for the second interview before making a decision.

4. Assume everyone you meet will provide feedback to the decision-maker.

Some companies hand out comment forms to receptionists, security guards and potential peers who take you to lunch. You can bet your future boss will listen to the secretary who marches into his office to say, "If he gets hired, I quit."

5. Communicate interest and enthusiasm, even if you're not sure you're ready to commit.

You'll rarely have all the facts until you're looking at an offer. When you make a good impression, you may get redirected to a different job. Your interviewer may move to a new position and remember you. And it's always an ego-booster to say, "Thanks but no thanks."

6. Bring extra copies of your correspondence as well as your resume, references, writing samples, portfolio and current business cards.

Interviewers lose documents and conversations move in unexpected directions. A neatly organized folder will help you stand out from the pack.

7. Create a relaxed, positive attitude by devising a realistic game plan.

I encourage my own clients to have a "next step" ready to implement after the interview, before you hear the decision. When your career isn't riding on a single interview, you'll have fun and make a confident, relaxed impression.

8. Write a thank you letter within forty-eight hours.

Create a low-key sales letter, emphasizing how your qualifications match the company's needs. Present yourself as a resource, not a supplicant.

If you find yourself resisting this step, raise a red flag. Maybe on some level you don't want the job. That's okay: you can write a 2-line thank you note - even an email - just in case they've got another job waiting in the wings.

9. After sending the follow-up, forget about the interview.

Email or phone only if you've received a competing offer with a deadline. Silence does not necessarily mean rejection. One manager received an interview a full year after she applied for a job. By coincidence, she was just ready to make a move and her story had a happy ending.

Occasionally you may make points with follow-up mailings. A sports team public relations applicant sent puzzles, games and press releases -- and she got the job. Use your intuition.

10. Keep notes of what you learned from the process. What worked? What would you do differently?

Use your notes as you move through the process. Consider spending a single hour with a friend or unbiased career consultant to discuss the process.

Be careful of unsolicited feedback. Clients always surprise me with career legends they've picked up from neighbors, in-laws, siblings and even total strangers they meet on a plane.

Finally: Don't stop until you have a written offer with a start date, salary and terms, signed by a company officer or HR department. No written offers? Keep looking until you show up the first day and find a desk with your name on it.

And as soon as you begin your new job, make a brand-new career plan. Create your next safety net before you need one.

A Look at Industrial Fasteners

Industrial fasteners are used in aerospace, military, construction, and other industrial applications. These are extremely strong, extremely weather resistant, and almost completely corrosion- and rust-proof. They are made from a variety of metals, including stainless steel, chromium, and carbon.

Industrial fasteners can take many forms, for many different purposes. Here is a partial list of available industrial fasteners: anchors, bent bolts, cap screws, captive panel fasteners, drywall and deck screws, eye bolts, machine screws, nuts, cotter pins, retaining rings, rivets, screw driver insert bits, self clinching fasteners, self drilling screws, self tapping screws, sems, sockets, spring nuts, thread cutting screws, thread rolling screws, thumb-and-wing screws, washers, weld screws, and wood screws.

The sheer variety of industrial fasteners is overwhelming. Chances are, however, if you are in the market for a certain type of fastener, you know what you are looking for. Workers generally learn which screws to use for which jobs on their own, or with the assistance of their supervisors, peers, and training manuals. For a complete inventory on types and sizes, you can visit the commercial industrial fastener company American Fastener at their website. Even though it is a private, for-profit company, the website makes for a wonderful, general-knowledge store for the serious industrial fastener researcher. There you will find all fastener types and specifications, along with other helpful charts and diagrams. You can also find information on proper drill bit sizes and formats, heat-treated allow fasteners, a glossary of thread terminology, and more.

Industrial fasteners come in three main sizing standards: ASTM, SAE, and ISO (the American Society for Testing and Materials, the Society of Automotive Engineers, and the International Organization for Standards). Each of these standardization organizations recommends its own method of measuring and manufacturing fasteners. None are better than any of the others, but have varying applications and purposes, depending on what job you are working on.

Economy Tops the List of Factors That Will Determine the Outcome of US Elections

The Democrats and the Republicans have been focusing on a variety of issues all these days, as the country is preparing for the presidential elections. Most of the Americans are much concerned about the deficit, taxes and about the economic growth. The issue that is more dominant is the fallen economy.

The US economic downfall has also resulted in high unemployment rates and it is considered to be a major issue. Similarly, the candidate who can win the foreign policy debate is more likely to win. However, there are few different issues that might decide the presidential election, this November.

The Economic Shortfall People may vote for the candidate who has plans to work on the economic growth of the country. The Democrats insist on spending cuts and they also have plans to increase the taxes. Similarly, the Republicans also want to do the same and they want to reform various entitlement programs. However, the presidential debate is hovering over taxes as there is a notion that an increase in taxes will reduce the deficit.

Taxes Another thing that is dominant is the taxes. Taxes must be increased to reduce the deficit or the country has to reduce the dollars that it spends on entitlement programs. Both the candidates have been focusing on the issue but the Republicans are focusing on spending cuts and do not want to increase the taxes. But it is not sure whether the government will be able to strengthen the economy by increasing taxes and by cutting spending.

Employment Unemployment rate in the United States is high. Reports state that a lot of US citizens are receiving unemployment benefits and many are still applying for benefits. The candidate who has plans to help out the unemployed is likely to win the votes of the Americans who are unemployed. The current unemployment rate is 8 percent but it is still more for the Hispanics and blacks.

Immigration Most of the foreign born American citizens are concerned about immigration. Reports state that there are around 30 million undocumented immigrants in the United States and the difficulties that they face while in the United States as undocumented immigrants affect the other immigrants in the country.

Most of these immigrants are found to work illegally for less wages and they are found to work as nannies, cleaners and laborers. President Obama supports the DREAM Act that is likely to help out such undocumented immigrants. This Act will also allow them to become citizens later on. But this Act has not been passed because of various reasons and lack of support from both the parties. There are many foreign born Americans in the country and their votes are more important. However, the candidate who has the best plan to deal with undocumented immigrants may be supported by the naturalized US citizens.

Anonymous Proxy and Anonymous Web Surfing: How Do These Work?

Use of an Anonymous Proxy plays a major part in how one can surf the web without fear of compromising privacy and security.. For practical reasons we may not have to worry about how this works. But for the sole reasons that it is actually important for our privacy and security on the internet and that it is actually a simple process, we need to understand it better. Simply put anonymous surfing is accomplished by using anonymous proxy servers. But for the purpose of understanding the value of going anonymous online, let us discuss how surfing the web anonymously works in a little more detail. This might eventually lead new Internet users to appreciate the reason why many internet users go for anonymous surfing and Internet privacy.

Let us start by us having our own IP address. This is our identity on the Internet. This is assigned to us by our Internet service provider (ISP). Your ISP knows your IP and your information. Once you browse online, you will be leaving behind a record with your ISP about which sites you visited, and other data that you acquire as you surf online. As you go through this process day by day, you will have made a log on about your frequently visited sites and your Internet behaviour or pattern. This will then make you a target for advertisements and unwanted traffic, pop-ups and cookies, which is annoying and dangerous.

These aren't the only inconveniences that will annoy you when your IP is out in the open. There are actually much more serious and harmful threats from malicious Internet users or hackers. If this happens, your whole Internet privacy may be violated. The hacker may try to steal or delete your login information(s) and passwords, or use your credit card numbers to take control of your financial transactions online. You may find your computer infected with hundreds of viruses and spyware. And the worst case scenario will be if the hacker decides to use your identity for his own nefarious designs. This is identity theft, and it is one of the most troublesome crimes of our times.

This is where web surfing with the use of proxy servers comes in. In surfing the web discretely, we are able to protect ourselves from the hackers and malicious criminals out to steal and abuse our identity and personal data. We conceal our identity, by frequent changes in our IP addresses, and simply browse through the Web without worrying that our location is transparent to most other Internet users. Not only will we be able to screen out unwanted advertisements and needless traffic, we will be able to avoid becoming victims of identity theft and other cyber crimes.

This is accomplished by using anonymous proxy servers at multiple locations and software that routes your internet connection through many of these serves. Thus hiding your IP and protecting yourself from hackers as well as not leaving a pattern of sites visited.

Other benefits of surfing anonymously aside from internet privacy include reduction of the risk of viruses, spyware, and as simple as it sounds, this is how effective and efficient anonymous web surfing works.

Dark Autumn - Book Review

Now this could definitely be a movie! Dark Autumn is fantastic action-packed futuristic thriller that had me riveted for days. The energy was kept very high throughout the book.

Occasionally Clint Dunshee's characters performed seemingly super-human tasks, similar to James Bond or Dirk Pitt. However, the reader is also shown their flaws and the strength of intimate friendships - bonds that are so deep they are willing to risk their lives for them. The abilities of these characters are made more believable because of the incredibly difficult training scenarios the author leads the reader through.

The theme is set in the future when space travel and space science is a part of life. Earth is contacted from another planet when one of the science probes is picked up by alien humans. As it turns out Earth is only one of hundreds of planets with intelligent life, only some were human. Many planets in the universe helped bring Earth's technology up to par in exchange for the planet's rich agriculture and minerals. Most planets worked on a good trade relation in relative peace, but the trouble-making Marvonians were on the edge of acceptance. This planet took it upon themselves to steal from Earth and attack their ships within a few light years of Marvon.

The main characters of the book, Alan, Bill, Carrie, Julie and Angela are all highly intelligent youth that are singled out for highly trained positions. Despite their youth and inexperience, they were considered Earth's only chance to avoid a war with a technologically superior race. Bounty hunters and sabotage plays a part in a deadly scavenger hunt while plans are laid to rescue the hostages held by Marvonians. Earth has a chance to destroy their image of being a young planet and elevate into more sophisticated, honorable one that the other planets can respect and hold trade with more readily.

In order to do this, Earth must play the game carefully and honorably - at the same time the team must eliminate the dangerous problems with Marvon and free the Earthling prisoners before it is too late.

I believe this book deserves the highest ratings and I would recommend it to anyone, anytime, anywhere.

Garbage in Its Place

There is nothing worse than seeing garbage blowing down the street of your neighborhood, or finding broken shards of glass at the local swimming hole where children play. Wildlife is just as vulnerable to garbage and many have lost their lives after becoming tangled in waste or mistaking garbage for food. It is up to each of us to make an effort to minimize this unsightly, and sometimes hazardous, problem.

Animals, wind and traffic breezes put legs to loose garbage and are able to distribute it great distances from the original source. The first thing that we can do to prevent this is to ensure trashcan and dumpster lids are secure. Metal and plastic trashcans are more preventative than bags - leaving a bag out over night or even for several hours, is an enticing invitation for stray animals to wreak havoc. When taking a load to the dump, be sure that it is securely covered by tightly tying a tarp over the load with some rope or bungee cords.

Carry plastic shopping bags on your walks to clean up litter that you find along the way. Often, people are rewarded for their efforts by the deposits returned from bottles and cans. Those who have noticed your efforts will begin taking up the same habit once they realize the impact it has.

Report any dumping you witness, whether it was done illegally or accidentally - just get the license number and leave the rest to the officials. Also, report any site where garbage has been left by others. These problems can be reported to the local city, highway, public works or conservation office. Ask them to arrange for it to be cleaned up.

By doing these relatively small actions, we prevent contamination and injuries to people or wildlife in the area. When separating recyclable items, we keep a valuable resource out of the landfill. In addition, we maintain a pristine environment for citizens, tourists and wildlife to enjoy. We can all take pride knowing that by keeping garbage in its place, we are making the world just a little better for everyone.

Lean Concepts in Agriculture and Food Industry

I was fascinated about the concept of lean manufacturing since I first read the articles on lean manufacturing. Then when I conducted few researches on lean manufacturing I understood that lean is the path for future.

But one question continuously I asked myself is the possibility of applying lean manufacturing concepts in the field of agriculture and food industry. Agriculture is traditionally based on bulk manufacturing. Harvesting is done once a season most of the times and stocked and used later. In fact some lean thinkers say that people adopted batch processing and stocking in manufacturing as a result of the practices from agricultural thinking. Before the industrialization people with the biggest stocks of food and other supplies were considered as more stable and they were able to face challenges of nature without having to starve. People with time develop the concept of having more stocks is better. When people gradually moved to industrialization, still the concept of maintaining big safety stocks hasn't changed according to these lean thinkers.

Agriculture is an industry which requires a new way of thinking. Traditional methods have lots of wastes and inefficiencies build into them. According to some researches more than 20% of agricultural products become unusable before it reach the end consumer in some countries. This offers any lean thinker a good opportunity to explore the possibilities of implementing lean concepts in this area. Even if we can reduce this waste by half we will be reducing the number of people dying due to starvation.

Just in time manufacturing may not be possible in the field of agriculture. But the distribution, handling methods etc can be improved with the techniques like JIT and kaizen. By educating people and using simple technology waste can be reduced dramatically. Effectively connecting the manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers and retailers up to the customer is very necessary to improve the effectiveness of the process.

Review On Rich Dad Poor Dad Book

This is the first book in the Rich Dad series which stayed the longest at number one on the New York Times. Robert had two dads; one was his biological dad (poor dad) and the other his best friend's dad (rich dad). Though he loved them both but their teachings of money often contradict each other. Eventually he followed rich dad's advice that led him to financial freedom. Robert explains what parents tell or teach their children are very important. The parents of poor and middle class always tell their children to "Work hard and get good grades so that you can get a secure job with great benefits". The rich parents on the other hand will teach their children to increase their financial intelligence as they know that the education system does not teach them about money but instead teach them to be employees.

Robert also defined Asset as simply money put into your pocket and Liability as money taken out of your pocket. He challenged the fact that our house which many people thought of is an asset is actually a liability.

Another fact that Robert discussed was that you can never get rich even if you have a very high salary if you are going to accumulate more liabilities that generates more expenses. With higher salary people go out and get a bigger house or car and live extravagantly beyond their means sinking into greater debt.

As this book is written with an American context, I found that many of the ideas and examples narrated by Robert can be adapted and applied in other countries. Robert also said it in his free audio downloadable that the fundamental operations of the rich in different countries are the same. I have applied some of his techniques, as I am not American, and have experienced success thus far.

Do Hot Tubs Consume Too Much Electricity?

When setting out to purchase a hot tub, one can easily get lost among the many choices, accessories, and excitement. This is why sometimes we can forget that getting a spa is not all fun and games; your hut tub would require regular maintenance, choosing the right one to suit your need can be confusing, and to top it off, it is not a cheap investment either. In calculating the costs of purchasing a hot tub, most of us tend to neglect to calculate yet another expense; the cost of electricity used to operate the tub. Many have expressed surprise of the spike in their electricity bill after purchasing a hot tub, so make sure you come prepared. On average, it may cost $1 per day, but when you are not careful electricity costs can easily balloon to $100 or more.

There are several factors influencing the energy consumption of your hot tub. The most influential factor is heat. The tub chiefly uses electricity in operating its heating element. The hotter the water is, the more electricity is being used. It is recommended that hot tubs be set at no more than 104 degrees Fahrenheit, and some are preprogrammed this way. The more divergent expense on electricity is usually caused by poor insulation. A tub with good insulation would better retain heat, and its heating devices would not have to go into overdrive to compensate for the loss. Certain brands are also more eco-friendly, by offering an energy efficient mechanism. A medium sized hot tub can consume 5 to 7 kWh in a day, while a tub with poor insulation may use 12 to 18 kWh per day. In the worst case scenario, this can easily add up to over 700 kWh per month. By choosing your tub carefully, the difference in electricity expense can be profound.

You can also take other measures to minimize the energy usage of your spa. You can employ the use of an insulator, or a cover, to maintain the temperature in the tub. This way, the heater would have to work less hard and less often to maintain the temperature of the water. Experiment with lower heat; many find that lowering their tub's temperature to 102 still provides comfortable warmth while saving energy. Heating your tub specifically only when power is in its lowest demand-also known as off-peak heating-can also help. When you are planning on leaving for quite a while, the best action to take depends on the state of your hot tub. If your tub is an energy efficient one, then you should consider turning down the thermostat. However, if it is not too efficient in heating, and you are planning on leaving in winter, it might be best to just drain the water lest it freezes and damages the tub. Accessories such as lights and air blowers can also drain electricity significantly, so make sure to turn these things off when not in use.

Ethics in Business - Please Have Some

Is your business ethical?

What I mean is "Does your business do the right thing when faced with that decision?" It's a simple question, which many businesses struggle with. I just don't understand the struggle part?

I have worked for companies that believed they were ethical, and really have no clue. Meaning the decisions they make everyday towards their customers and employees does not advocate ethics.

So, what is it? When someone in business gives you their word and then reneges, that is unethical. Your word is your promise. Even if it is your business making the statement.

Doing good business and being a good employer is more than your product or people, it is the guidelines in which you do that good business. I'm disappointed in how many unethical businesses exist today. I have worked for some of them and they just don't get it... they 'talk tough' but when the decisions are made I can't fathom what motivated them come to their decision? It was not necessarily 'doing the right thing'.

Yes, I know profits are pinnacle to most, but that IS NOT the bottom line! The bottom line is how your customer, partner, client or prospect walked away from their experience. What's so hard to get? It also helps you feel good about yourself and your business, and you should sleep better too!

Treat them the way you want to be treated... I mean it!

Don't say something you have no intention of backing up with your action. Keep your word in business, in compensation promises, in client promises, in doing good business. This is pinnacle!

I don't want to ramble here, but some businesses need a wake-up-call (yesterday). What puzzles me is why? When you do good business, you get more good business. I'm not just talking about the Enron's or Arthur Anderson's of the World, I'm talking about every type of business out there, in every industry.

If each one of us refused to do business with these unethical companies - we would have a lot fewer of them.

Be one of the ethical ones. Do good business, keep your word, don't venture into gray areas, and do the right thing! Sure, it will occasionally cost you something, but it will pay you back, and it won't cost you your dignity or pride or any client worth having. Isn't your business worth it? Or how about your personal reputation?

Try this: The next few times you're faced with 'doing the right thing'? Well, when you 'do it' - do it with extreme pleasure!*

*This will pay you and your business back ten-fold. Why? Because that person (customer, employee, client, etc.) is going to tell at least 3-12 other people (potential customers who like to be treated well too). Remember, you did it with extreme pleasure, they're not just going to say they received a refund, or a promotion, - they're going to be jumping up and down at how well their situation was handled!

- Make someone else's day! - you'll be surprised at how well your day goes.

I look forward to running into more good business out there - hopefully yours.

Remember - Doing good business rewards your business with more of it... we're all here seeking to do business with reputable firms, let's do just that.

The upside? If your business does good ethical business? Then you are already ahead of a good chunk of your competitors! There's opportunity here. Keep up the good work, partner with other 'like types' and only do your personal business with other more ethical companies, like yours. We could see a decrease in our unethical competition very soon.

Thank you for allowing me to voice my thoughts and encourage the type of business that helped this Country, it's people, and every business - Grow and prosper.

Good luck in your business promotions!
